MISSION & Philosophy

The mission and/or philosophy of the nursing program reflects the governing organization’s mission, goals, and/or values. The governing organization and nursing program have administrative capacity and resources that support effective delivery of the program and facilitate the achievement of the end- of-program student learning outcomes and program outcomes, and additionally for graduate programs the role-specific nursing competencies.

South Florida College of Nursing is a nursing school and as such, the mission of the nursing education unit is the same as that of the organization. The mission of the College (and nursing programs) “…is to build an incredibly passionate community of professional nurses who advance the wellness of people across the nation.”

The philosophy of the Nursing Education Unit is to provide students an environment that fosters the transformation of nursing education into nursing practice. Incorporating an interdisciplinary approach to health care that includes a patient centered care, evidence-based practice and the use of technology in delivering health care.

Objectives & Goals

This philosophy supports the institutional objective which is to provide safe and highly competent registered nurses and to meet the demands of our increasing population while providing care in a variety of healthcare delivery systems. Supporting this foundational objective are the following institutional goals:

  • Support and assist in the implementation of the purposes and mission of the College.
  • Prepare individuals with the highest standard of nursing practice within the level of education.
  • Provide and encourage career mobility for nurses to be leaders and prepare for future advancement in a health care profession.
  • Develop teaching strategies that meet a variety of learning needs and assure quality of education.
  • Provide nursing education opportunities without regard for age, race, or sex.
  • Serve as a catalyst for positive change in the delivery of healthcare and the practice of nursing.

History

In the Spring of 2010, founder and Dean, Dr. Henry Olivera set forth with a belief: If an institution takes exceptional care of its students, it will develop exceptional healthcare professionals. That belief ignited what was solely an NCLEX Nursing Review and Remedial Program to what is now South Florida College of Nursing; a nursing school whose aim is to educate and empower healthcare professionals who advance the wellness of people across the nation.

In 2010, Dr. Olivera agreed to meet with a group of graduated nurses and assist them in passing the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). During their meetings, he provided free tutoring and support to help them achieve competency. By word of mouth, the group reached new heights and eventually flourished into a successful review and remedial program approved by the Florida Board of Nursing in 2013. The program has assisted hundreds of nurses in the South Florida community pass the NCLEX. Dr. Olivera took the knowledge gained from the review program and applied it to the development of South Florida College of Nursing’s curriculum and was utilized as an educational resource to assure student success.

Located in Miami, FL, South Florida College of Nursing (SFCN) offers an Associates Degree in Nursing, a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, and RN/LPN Review/Remedial Program. The college is approved by the Florida Board of Education, Commission of Independent Education and is proud to have had multiple graduating classes.

South Florida College of Nursing is committed to providing a collaborative learning environment to graduate and empower healthcare professionals who advance the wellness of people across the nation. SFCN was developed by educators with years of clinical experience and an understanding of the skills required to excel as a professional nurse. We are Developed by nurses for nurses.
